GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. Review: The Empties (The Glitches # 2) by Ramona Finn

The Empties by Ramona Finn

(I received a free copy of this book from Relay Publishing on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

Is survival worth any price?
Cast out of the Norm, Lib must fight for every second of life among the Rogues in the desert wasteland that is now her home, scavenging in abandoned cities known as the Empties. With the help of fellow Glitch Skye she hopes to hack the AI that will allow them to return to the city and save her family. There’s just one problem: Lib’s memories are missing.
Lib isn’t like other Glitches. Her ability to merge with technology is causing a rift in her newfound family, and putting them in danger. Soon she’ll have to choose whether to return to the Norm or stay with the people she’s come to rely on in the Outside. When her desire to know the truth about herself forces her to return to the Norm, handsome Rogue leader Wolf Tracker insists on accompanying her to the lion’s den.
There, she meets an old friend—but Lib is no longer sure they can be trusted. When she learns a horrifying truth about the AI and her mother’s part in it, Lib is shaken to the core. Now, she’ll have to decide if humanity’s survival is worth a bloody cost.

The character development in the second installment of The Glitches is really wonderful to see. Lib, the protagonist did annoy me a bit at places but it was interesting to see her realizing her faults and evolving throughout the story.

The Empties does not focus on as many characters as The Glitch and I found many characters melting into the background. I did enjoy seeing new faces among The Tracker clan. I also enjoyed the fact that many questions I had pondered over after the first book were answered here. In this book, the readers are told more about the AI and her abilities.

I think I liked the plot of The Empties even more than that of The Glitch and that is saying something considering the fact that The Glitch was a 5 hearts read for me! This series is really unique with it's slightly complicated but intriguing story. I enjoyed delving a little deeper into the relationships between The Tracker Clan members. I also enjoyed getting to know about the Norm and the world before the Norm. This book isn't as fast paced as The Glitch but there is so much more information in The Empties. But despite the fact that the book isn't fast paced, there is a sense of urgency as the people on the Outside are facing a huge threat to their existence.

The book is extremely well written and as with The Glitch, the imagery is beautiful and I was completely pulled into the book. Despite the large amount of information provided in the book, there is no info dumping.

-EVERYTHING

- NOTHING

This series is a must read for those who love a dystopian world with advanced technology and an intriguing mystery.

WILL I BE READING THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES?

A huge, resonating YES!

  2. Ooooh, this sounds really good. So glad there's no info dumping - that can truly spoil a book. Have you tried Pure trilogy by Julianna Baggott? I'm getting the same vibe from this novel. Great review!
