Review: Van Laven Chronicles: Throne of Novoxos by Tyler Chase

Van Laven Chronicles: Throne of Novoxos by Tyler Chase

(I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

The brave warrior, Prince Comron Van Laven, lays at death’s door after a near fatal transport crash. His life is in the hands of his mortal enemy who does the unthinkable…she saves him…in so many ways. Together the two must battle for survival against the harsh elements, deadly assassins and vicious animal attacks. But that’s only the beginning of their struggles.

Once rescued, they must confront the bitter enmity that exists between their worlds, in addition to the dark family secrets threatening to destroy them. Bound by their deep bond, the two embark on a new odyssey where all forces have turned against them and are seeking their lives. But with the help of some shadowy mercenaries, the two just might make it to the throne of Novoxos to stake their royal claim and defeat their enemies.

Ok I absolutely did not like the hero. Comron Van Laven is definitely not my type of hero. He is chauvinistic and cruel. I kind of liked the heroine Vaush at the beginning and then she just morphed into a cliched YA/NA heroine.

Crausin was a character I despised to the core. It didn't help that there was no character in this book that held my interest. The good were reaaaally good and the bad were reaaaally bad.

When I read the blurb I was expecting so much more! The beginning actually held my interest. I was expecting a sci-fi war story of epic proportions only to fall headlong into an insta-love, cliched story. I admit I liked the technical/political aspects of the story but some things definitely made me gag. Like *SPOILER* Father and son sharing a woman, and then this twisted relationship that the son is actually a clone of the fatherso technically they are blood brothers?*SPOILER* I mean what??

The writing was pretty good. It was descriptive without being overtly so. It had really good imagery and I suppose the writing was the reason I was able to finish the book. The author does a really good job of show and not tell. It makes the descriptions captivating.

- The blurb
- The very beginning
- The writing

- The characters
- The plot

WILL I BE READING THE SEQUEL?

I don't think so...

I see a lot of people did like the book so maybe it was just not my type of book. If you are like me and do not enjoy cliches, insta love, and chauvinistic heroes, this book is NOT for you. If you like your romances sugary and over-the-top with a sci-fi background, go ahead and read the book.

    1. Oh Gods! Tell me about it..The only reason I finished reading this book is because I made a promise to myself that I won't DNF books..this book really reaaaallly tested that promise. It had the premise of an epic but then it headed off in a different direction.
