Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar // Night Markets, Star Courts and Desi goodness

GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.   ( A huge thank you to the  HOV Tours  and HarperTeen for the eARC and the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour.  ~When a book sees you~      Yes I am absolutely go...

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K.Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling

BLURB ON THE JACKET-

"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse omniously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from the unexpected places."

**My Review is slightly biased due to the fact that I love all things Harry Potter**

CHARACTERS

Scorpius Malfoy deserves an award for best character ever.

Hermione is perfection. Enough said.

But great characters end right about there. Harry was..well, not Harry. I'm not talking about his flaws or anything but this is not the Harry I've read about since childhood. All through the book i wanted to say, 'Who the hell are you and where is my beloved Harry?" Understood that he is older and no longer a Hogwarts student but no one changes so much that they are unrecognizable.

And Ron. I love Ron's jokes but throughout the book he seemed kind of an airhead. But i sure loved how devoted he is to Hermione.

And Delphi. Don't get me started on a character who shouldn't exist in the first place. As this is a spoiler free review, I can't go into why I loathe her existence.

PLOT

If you see this as a continuation of the HP series, a number of plot holes can be spotted. but by the end of the book, I'd begun to consider it separately from HP. [ Which it is in a away as it reads more like fan fiction and also; it is NOT a novel. It is a play script. ] The plot, though interesting in some ways, becomes slightly predictable in other places, which is quite unlike Rowling. [ Which brings me to the point that, as the cover states, it is BASED on a story written by her and isn't a complete Rowling product]

WRITING

The script form was slightly distracting at first but much to my surprise, I got used to it pretty quickly. But i won't say i loved the writing. It was clearly lacking in the gorgeous description that has been in all seven Harry Potter books. After that, the writing in this book seems too choppy.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK

-Scorpius Malfoy
- The fact that it is a Harry Potter book [Like i said,.. biased]
-Ron's love for Hermione [Act Three, Scene Seventeen Aww moments guaranteed]
-Scorpius Malfoy [I know i mentioned that before but oh well]

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK

-Choppy writing
-Our beloved characters weren't themselves
-What's with the Plot?!

CONCLUSION

I like the book because it is impossible for me to not like anything Harry Potter but truthfully it did not meet my gigantic expectations. I would recommend it only to the die hard fans who love anything and everything Harry Potter.

  1. Harry is not Harry right? He's just not. I was also not really on board with what they did to Cédric.

    1. Oh my God! I couldn't digest that about Cedric! It was just too impossible. I think all that was added just to increase the dramatic feel of the book...
